Startup Sphere Weekly #33
This e-commerce store makes $81,000/month by selling one product. PLUS: A Shopify app selling for $299,000.
Hey it’s Vlad,
welcome back to Startup Sphere, a 5-minute weekly digest about online businesses selling for life-changing amounts of money.
Thank you to the 114 new subscribers who joined in the last week. It’s awesome to see this community of entrepreneurs and investors continue to grow.
I want to try something new. If you’re working on something (business, e-commerce store, SaaS, etc), reply to this email with the link.
I’d love to see what projects my readers are working on and feature them in next week’s newsletter.
Announcement
I’ve been making progress with my business idea market research tool, which I’ve mentioned in the newsletter a couple of times. I tweeted an update about my process here.
You can still book a pre-order slot here. The price is going up to 99$ after the pre-order ends. So get in early if you’re interested.
Thanks all. Let’s get into this week’s listings 😎
Weekly Rundown
Sports cards trading platform
Asking Price: $169,000
TTM Revenue: $100,000
TTM Profit: $100,000
The sports card niche has been on the rise, with big spikes in popularity a couple of years ago.
The business for sale is sportstrading.cards - an online platform that allows users to trade, buy and sell sports cards and other collectibles (in case the domain wasn’t obvious enough).
It is generally difficult to build a marketplace from scratch since you need buyers to buy products, while also needing sellers to sell said products. That’s why this listing is so attractive, since the platform already has a user base, getting close to 2,000 visits per month.
The business sale also comes with $300,000 worth of inventory, which is great added value.
WhatsApp marketing tool
Asking Price: $299,000
TTM Revenue: $110,000
TTM Profit: $24,000
The business for sale is a WhatsApp tool that helps e-commerce stores recover abandoned carts and increase engagement.
This business is a great example of providing users with value. The software saves companies money by recovering abandoned carts, making it a no-brainer for e-commerce stores to sign up.
There are multiple ways to market this. In my opinion, the most straightforward way is through cold email. Simply use BuiltWith or Wappalyzer to find a list of companies running on Shopify, and reach out to them directly.
The profit margins of the business are slightly concerning to me, especially considering that it is a software business. On the other hand, it may be a great opportunity for someone to come in and optimize the business, increasing the profit margins.
Competitors include SuperLemon, Bitespeed, and Zoko.
Eyelash e-commerce store
Asking Price: $671,000
TTM Revenue: $982,000
TTM Profit: $80,000
This listing is a great example of building a business around a flagship product.
The business for sale is an e-commerce store that sells fake eyelashes. The eyelashes are handcrafted with Korean silk, giving them a comfortable feel and making them perfect for everyday wear or special occasions.
This business is a great opportunity because it operates in an evergreen niche, while also being established in the industry. There is an opportunity to continue expanding the current product line, introducing other eyelash-related products, and eventually other beauty products.
As with most e-commerce businesses, the profit margins aren’t as high (compared to SaaS at least). But that’s the price you pay when you provide your audience with a premium product, and I’m sure it’ll pay dividends in the future.

Last Week’s Poll
The results are in: The SaaS for Amazon and Walmart sellers takes the win with 71% of the votes. A not very close second place for the Rank-boosting service for gamers. The Scrum master bootcamp got no love.
Subscriber feedback: “Because of the growing demand to automate ecommerce business, this can be a very profitable business in months to come.“
