Startup Sphere Weekly #40
An e-commerce store making $130,000/year. Also: A tool for short form video selling for $25,000.
Hey it’s Vlad,
welcome back to Startup Sphere, a 5-minute weekly digest about online businesses selling for life-changing amounts of money.
This week I started a new Instagram page where I’ll share how to build various tools and products in the tech space - @itsvladverba. I’d appreciate it if you could drop it a follow 🙏
Let’s get into this week’s business features ⤵️
Weekly Rundown
AI tool for generating multi-language voiceovers
Asking Price: $25,000
TTM Revenue: $3,000
TTM Profit: $2,000
There has been a rapid rise in tools that leverage AI to significantly multiply output. This tool is an example of that.
The business for sale is a tool for generating voiceovers for short-form video, in various languages. Theoretically, this will significantly multiply content creator output and help distribute their content to a much larger audience.
I have seen examples of tools similar to this one that work, but I am never sure if they just cherry-pick from their best results.
I can see this having a huge impact on the podcast space.
Competitors include ShortX and AutoShorts.
Website for generating unique tattoo designs
Asking Price: $49,500
TTM Revenue: $2,000
TTM Profit: $5,500
Here’s another example of a website that uses AI in a creative way.
The business for sale is a website that generates tattoo ideas. This is a super interesting niche, which I don’t know much about.
However, I like the concept that this website will help you generate a unique tattoo based on your personal input. I think this gives people a sense of being unique and expressing themselves (which is what tattoos are all about).
I am surprised that the profit margins are this low for the business, given that you can use an open-source model like Stable Diffusion to generate images.
I can also imagine it is difficult to retain customers since most will generate tattoos for a week, get the tattoo, and no longer need the software.
Novelty gift card e-commerce store
Asking Price: $250,000
TTM Revenue: $133,000
TTM Profit: $47,000
Here’s a fun example of a business that doesn’t need AI or SaaS to be successful.
The company is a novelty gift card business. They sell an assortment of gift cards with clever designs and witty messaging. The company primarily sells on Amazon.
There has been a recent decline in revenue because the owner stopped running paid ads. It is definitely worth asking about the reasoning for stopping paid ads.
I like how this business sticks to a proven niche that works. I think this plays in its favor and helps overcome the waves of economic and industrial changes.
